EAST LA ALL*STAR KOBE 6

Meet the new edition to the Kobe 6 line up.  It's been a good minute since these were released but I came up today.  Shout out to the homie Jeff for hooking me up with East Los Kobe's. At first this wasn't on the fishing list but how can you deny it when it falls into your lap.

NIKE VAULT 2-25-2011

Took a trip down at the Vault and finally copped my OC Kobe 6.  It took sometime but after initially passing on them and losing sleep for them, I finally closed the deal.  In my opinion one the better executed pairs to date.  Shout out to the Vault for restocking these f*ckers and giving me a shot at it!  Inside the Vault looks slick and calm but it was pouring outside with tons of people because the Lakers are set to host the Clippers on this night.  Interactive 2k11 virtual free throw station is still up and if you have not yet checked it out do so b/c its pretty knarly.

TRADE DEADLINE AFTERMATH

So the Lakers stood still when the clock hit the deadline.  The Lakers are after all the defending champs and with this core the Lakers have reached the Finals three times and looks to be in position to claim the fourth trip.  But there were teams who were active and some moves scratched your head while others made so much sense that it's very difficult to pass on the opportunity.  Here's my point of view of the active teams and while I don't mention all the trades, these are the ones that had me stoked and at times scratching my head.  Read on.

Oklahoma City Thunder:
This was a great move by GM Sam Presti.  We already know about their superstar in Kevin Durant, all star PG Russell Westbrook, and how their team is loaded with youth and athleticism.  Now they subtract Jeff Green & Nenad Kristic for Kendric Perkins.  Perk gives them an inside defensive presence and a brand of tough basektball they sorely lacked, which became obvious in the playoffs.  Then the addition of Nate Robinson off the bench is another cause of concern for other teams because the bench suddenly has a scoring punch.  In a separate transaction they also acquired Nazr Mohammed as another back up big.  They were a dangerous dark horse team before but now the  roster on paper looks like a legit contender and a top 4 team in the league.

Boston Celtics:
It's a trade, so you give up something and get something in return.  Having said that, before we can judge what the heck just happened we have to wait until the waiver wire clears because maybe (just maybe) Danny Ainge has something up his sleeve.  So hold your breathe Celtics fans.

Utah Jazz:
This was probably the most underrated move because the moves were done for the future without the win now mantra.  Yes, its hard to lose Coach Sloan, given the years he's been there and now to trade away a top tier PG in Derron Williams to avoid the Melo saga or risk the possibility of losing him in free agency without any compensation.  Top tier PG don't just fall out of the sky (ask the Hawks) so what they got back in return is simply current value for DWill.  Devin Harris is an All-Star PG, Derick Favors has upside, and a draft pick that will probably be in the Lottery is great compensation.  Harris and Derick Favors fills needs but they might pan out to something more.  Still raw but teamed up with Big Al, Utah might have the most talented 4-5 tandem in the league very soon. That is worth the gamble.

New York Knicks:
So the "Melodrama" finally ended and the Knicks got their superstar while the Nuggets gutted the team.  Now there are enough pieces currently for this team to continue to compete but they are a season or two away from making moves to really compete for the East and join Miami and Boston as the East's elite.  The key here for this season though will be the "throw in" Chauncy Billups.  If he can take advantage of Coach  DiAntoni's system, they can possibly be a dangerous team in the Play offs.  Just don't take my word for it because this team got their superstar but with plenty of "ifs" along with it.

Los Angeles Clippers:
We finally move the immovable Baron Davis and his contract.  Sounds like an accomplishment right?  Sure I agree that you have to get what your paying for and clearly Baron wasn't playing up to his contract but I think the timing stinks for two reasons.
Reason number one:
Finally Blake got Baron to play inspired ball.  I don't buy in the notion that Baron had to go for the Clips to become Blake's "team".  Everyone knows, including Baron that Blake is the franchise and future.  While #32 is here, there is a reason to play basketball.  The team was starting to gel, find rhythm and more importantly an Identity.  Now Davis will pout in Cleveland and we get a guy who's best asset is to shoot which means less ball movement and less shots for Gordon who is in my opinion just as important to the Clips success.
Reason number two:
The Clippers are under the salary cap.  The Clippers want to keep Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon.  I assume that's the plan but having seen what happened with all the movement the Clippers is a team that could have done more and didn't.  How you ask? We went after the wrong Williams, as in Derron Williams. (Yes, I understand the PG log jam here but how fun and dangerous would the Clips be by boasting a starting core of Gordon/Williams/Griffin/Jordan can be. If he was available why didn't the Clips go after him? A package that includes Kaman's expiring contract, a unprotected no.1 pick which looks like a lottery pick and throw in Eminu/Bledsoe.  Whatever the case maybe there were pieces available to have a shot at a top tier talent like Williams.  All this movement proves that anyone can be had with the right offer. But then again this is why the Clippers are, well, the Clippers.

BATTLE: LA

Got to see it 15 days before its opening night.  I suppose just like sneakers, some things are pretty awesome to experience early.

So Long Jerry

Jerry Sloan will soon resign as the Utah Jazz head coach.  If you appreciate basketball, you have to miss him and understand his impact on the game.  During  his stay in Utah he coached hall of fame superstars in John Stockton and Karl Malone but with nothing else behind them in Jordan's era.  His team is all about execution on both ends of the floor and that became the definition of Utah Jazz basketball.  To be with any company for 20 plus years is taxing on a person and this case isn't different.  He will leave without having to win a single championship but as his resume stands, he belongs in the same breathe as the all time great coaches in the NBA in my opinion.  Much appreciation for your years in the NBA coach Sloan.

A TRADE THAT WILL WORK

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=655ccjd

Ok, take note its 2/3/11 and as  LAL fan I am worried - WHY DO YOU ASK?

We just lost to the hated Celtics and if you say "ah, its ok we gonna play them in a week or so.." or " we have a good record and its only the regular season so lets not get ahead of ourselves"... I respond to you like this (pls dont take it personal) FUCK THAT~!!

Yes, we are 2nd in the west behind the Spurs about 6 games out and since they have the best record we are only that many games behind.  Well guess what currently our record stands 0-1 Spurs, 1-1 Bulls, 0-1 Heat, 0-1 Celtics, 1-0 Thunder, and we will soon see Orlando. That record looks awful but whats disturbing about our trend is we are losing to the top teams -BAD.  What does that tell you, we don't bring our "A" game.  Whether its bordem, effort, or whatever, there is no room for excuses.  Bad habits are hard to break (see Finals 08').  So talking up a storm in Facebook with my good broski A.M. we come up with this.

If we had to punch in the "panic" button and had to pull a trade to wake people up and defend our title it would look like this.

LAL: acquire:
Chris Paul PG
Emeka Okafor C
Trevor Ariza SG/SF

NOR: acquire:
Andrew Bynum C
Steve Blake PG or Ebanks SF & Caracter PF (note: this is a LAL +3 & NOR +3)
Ron Artest SF
Luke Walton SF

I will not bore you with numbers and or contracts but they add up ..see trade machine by ESPN.

This is why it works for the HORNETS:
Currently the Hornets are stuck in a real bad situation.  Not owned by anyone, the NBA took it over before it drowned in debts before it can find a suitor(s).   It has been on the market for sometime and by the looks of things it will be in the market for a while. This will help relieve them in the cap by receiving players they can use as assets for other trades or to simply buy out their contracts.  Bynum being the only valuable basketball piece, he can be a cornerstone for a up and coming franchise.  Quick - name the top 3 centers in the league?  Yes, its difficult  - so it is not far fetched that Bynum can one day fulfill his potential and be a dominant force or at least a serviceable big in the worst case scenario.  If they go the rookies route instead of Blake they will have a pair of young assets for whatever in the future.  Ebanks is a Ariza clone and Caracter with his friendly contract may pan out.  Yes, they will be in full on rebuilding mode but hey ask Toronto & Cleveland how it feels to lose their superstars in Free Agency.  Get something back NOR!

This is why it works for the LAKERS.
Lets get this out of the way, CP3 is still recovering but a so so healthy CP3 is better than most healthy PGs in the L.  We finally address our weakness at the PG position in a big way.  We don't need to bring up what CP3 can do but this puts DFISH on the bench and bring him in, in critical moments and limit his minutes.  If we stay with Blake he can slide at the 2 and run a three guard rotation w/ Brown.  Lots of possibilities with this.  Now Ariza takes Artests spot which brings us back to the 09' team but with CP3.  The most crucial part about this trade though in my opinion is we keep our advantage and that is deep with big men.  Okafor has had health issues but not like Bynum and he isnt as long or as tall as Bynum but his production is about equal.  If anything we become a much more athletic team. Finally this sets us up for years to come.  We will have an elite backcourt for a year or so and an elite PG for some time.

It is nice to dream but its only on the ESPN trade machine..have a safe one and thanks for reading my crap.
